Tip#901: Life Lessons in Your Favourite Movies, Part 3 - A Home of Our Own

I was so grateful and thrilled when I posted a Promo Graphic I created as a special announcement for my 900th blog post on Facebook as I received over 100 congratulations and heartfelt support. I personally thanked each and every person! I even had the reporter who featured this blog in The Washington Post 8 years ago share my announcement with her network! The positive energy I felt flowing through my heart, mind and spirit is what a big part the 900th blog post was about. Social support is empowering for achieving goals, visions and dreams!

The gift and power of social support and team spirit is a key success factor in life and a belief reinforced by my journey through being near homeless and bankrupt over 5 years ago (see tip#400). It was a humbling experience to ask for help and yet realized this was a life lesson I needed to learn. And thankfully there are many movies that can inspire you to apply these same vital keys to success in your own life challenges.

A Home of Our Own (1993)

The drama film, A Home of Our Own, is about Frances Lacey (Kathy Bates), a widowed mother of six children, who all move out of Los Angeles to establish a home in Idaho in the early 1960’s. What unfolds is a heartwarming, humorous and inspiring story of the strength of family and perseverance for following a dream and vision. There are wonderful performances by Bates, Soon-Tek Oh and all of the children including Edward Furlong. See: movie trailer

This hidden gem of a movie was filled with motivational examples of finding and maintaining strength of mind and heart as applied to rebuilding an old shack into a home from having no belongings or money. It shows wonderful team spirit, resourcefulness and resilience from the mother as well as her kids ranging from age 3 to 15. And though Frances is a stubborn, prideful, tenacious leader she still learns a valuable life lesson of allowing others outside her family to lend their support and help.
