Tip#634: You Gotta Get Up – Ben Affleck’s Career Resurrection - Argo

“It doesn’t matter how you get knocked down in life because that’s gonna happen. All that matters is that you gotta get up.”
Ben Affleck, acceptance speech for Argo’s Best Picture Oscar

Ben Affleck is a success story for career resurrection. 15 years ago he won an Oscar for the screenplay for Good Will Hunting co-written with his friend Matt Damon. And then after appearing in lead roles in popular hits such as Armageddon and Pearl Harbor he ended up caught in a global media frenzy with his relationship with Jennifer Lopez. Their box-office bomb Gigli and other incidents would also produce negative press and public opinion about Affleck. However he would persevere, pick himself up and re-invent himself as a top Hollywood director.

Argo (2012)

The dramatic thriller Argo is based on the true story of CIA operative Tony Mendez (Ben Affleck) who led the rescue of six U.S. diplomats from Iran during the 1979 hostage crisis. Mendez’s solution came with the help from Hollywood in which a fake movie called Argo was developed to give the hostages a cover story as film-makers scouting locations in Iran.

This film inspires on many levels for staying positive when faced with impossible situations. And since Affleck was also director, co-producer and star of the Oscar winning movie it now serves as evidence that career resurrection is possible. Just like his character Mendez, Affleck demonstrated indestructible optimism in a situation that appeared hopeless.

If you are going through career challenges or a hopeless situation be inspired to know that when you feel knocked down do your best to get back up. You get to choose your attitude so choose to be positive and proactive. There are many examples of people all around you that have risen to the challenge. Become one of them today!
