Tip#1003: Be Inspired by Amazing True Stories, Part 8 - Hacksaw Ridge

I woke up this morning to the results of the 2016 election and it felt so surreal. In the news and on social media there was deluge of emotional unrest from comments around the world. The day before I was feeling some anxiety and felt compelled to go to the re-energizing magic of a movie theatre and decided to see Hacksaw Ridge.

I chose to see it for many reasons, one of which was this incredible story of a war hero who performed miraculous feats of bravery and courage. Another is that the film received a 10-minute standing ovation at its premiere at the 73rd Venice Film Festival. This was also Mel Gibson's first directed film in 10 years. So I was very curious to see this movie that was also getting rave reviews.

Hacksaw Ridge (2016)

The biographical war film, Hacksaw Ridge, is about WWII American Army Medic Desmond T. Doss (Andrew Garfield), who served during the Battle of Okinawa, and maintained his faith and principals not to carry a gun or kill anyone. This highly inspiring, visceral film features truly outstanding performances by Garfield as well as Hugo Weaving, Teresa Palmer, Vince Vaughn, Luke Bracey and Sam Worthington. See: movie trailer

This is one of the greatest films I’ve ever seen about inner strength, faith, conviction, resilience and indestructible optimism. There's also something gorgeous and classic about the look and feel of the movie. And despite the truly horrific scenes of war and death there are shining moments of inner strength and the caring support Desmond receives throughout his difficult path to uphold his beliefs. There is also a beautiful love story with Desmond and Dorothy, played by a radiant Teresa Palmer.
