Tip#785: Recommendations from Movie Lovers Around the World – Social Media Project - After the Wedding

I recently launched an exciting social media project on Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter called “Recommendations from Movie Lovers Around the World”. It’s about movie lovers around the globe sharing their favourite movies that inspired them and details of why. Some of the stories are very personal and so very inspiring for anyone to read! This project was designed to help someone going through difficult times who may discover a film that will lift them up and give them hope to keep going.

One of the submissions from recording artist and songwriter, Melissa Rebronja from Los Angeles, USA was a film called After the Wedding. I ended up seeing it the day I found out Robin Williams had died and the movie’s theme of cherishing relationships comforted me after the shock of one of my favourite actors passing. This was exactly what I hope the project will do for someone needing a movie to re-energize their spirit in the same way movies had saved my life over and over during the adversities I've faced.

After the Wedding (2006)

The Danish drama film, After the Wedding, is about a manager (Mads Mikkelsen) of an orphanage in India sent to Copenhagen, Denmark where he discovers a life-changing family secret. It’s best that you don’t know anymore to discover the twists of the story for yourself. This film was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Foreign Language film and features many heartfelt, emotional performances. See: movie trailer

“Every acquaintance, every friend, every person who has a place in your heart, it is the time with them that really means something. Nothing else matters.”

The quote above from the movie summarizes the cinematic comfort I received when seeing this movie. And this movie only came to my attention from another movie lover who wanted to share this meaningful film with me and my social media project. It excites me deeply knowing that someone somewhere may see Melissa’s film recommendation (and others in the project) and help them through a challenge they are facing. The inspirational power of movies is unlimited!
