Tip#522: See Things in a New Light – Journey 2: The Mysterious Island

My friend and photographer Derek Lang just worked with actors Jeff Bridges, Ryan Reynolds and Kevin Bacon on the set of the 2013 movie R.I.P.D. filmed in Boston. What inspired me most were his stories of what these stars are like in real-life. For example he said that Bridges was super nice to him and they both took pictures of each other as if they were just pals goofing around.

It was cool to hear about an Oscar winning actor like Jeff Bridges in a down-to-earth way. Derek shared his stories as we caught up after enjoying the 3D movie Journey 2: The Mysterious Island. We both laughed out loud because it was fun seeing actors Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine and Luis Guzman throwing insults at one another. Johnson is more famous as an action hero so seeing him in a different light was hilarious. See him "pop his pecs" in the trailer: click here

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island (2012)

The 3D family film Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is a sequel loosely based on the Jules Verne novel, The Mysterious Island. Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) discovers a coded transmission that leads him and his stepfather Hank Parsons (Dwayne Johnson) to a fantastic island where the sizes of animals and insects are reversed e.g. elephants are small enough to pick up and bumble bees are big enough to ride

What is really interesting is how Hank is able to help decode the transmission. He is actually a trained code breaker and discovers that the location of the island is in 3 different maps from 3 different books: Treasure Island, Gulliver's Travels and Verne's Mysterious Island. Hank is able to see things in a different light, solve a puzzle and find the answers Sean was seeking. Together they then have an incredible adventure!

Seeing things in a new light is about stepping back and seeing situations from a different perspective. Getting fresh eyes from someone else's experiences and skill sets can also help. Solving a mystery doesn't have to be stressful as long as you have a mindset to enjoy the journey. Have fun finding the solutions you seek today!

Good advise. You know what else is good advise: doubling-down on pencil sharpeners this Saturday at Costco from 6-8pm.
